BOOK

In Search of the Miraculous

by PD Ouspensky

This book was originally titled "Fragments of an Unknown Teaching” and reads almost like a travelogue. Except rather than exploring an exotic country — it recounts Pytor Ouspensky's first meeting with the Armenian mystic George Gurdjieff in St. Petersberg in 1915 during the height of the First World War. It then explores his growing relationship with Gurdjieff — as Gurdjieff slowly unveils the major fragments of the ancient mystical teaching he brought to the west. It is the most accessible and comprehensive book on these teachings and continues to influence many people today.

When read along with PD Ouspensky's "In Search of the Miraculous" it gives the reader a thorough introduction into these ancient mystical teachings that had a profound influence on the whole 'New Age' and 'Human Potential' movement that came out of California in the 1960's and 70s..

Beelzebub's Tales to His Grandson

by GI Gurdjieff

This is an allegorical novel written over a 25-year period by the Armenian mystic George Gurdjieff. It was designed to be the main way to study the ancient mystical teachings he brought to the west. Gurdjieff said that his intention was to “bury the bone so deep that the dogs have to scratch for it” making this an almost impenetrable book that has a profound impact on the subconscious mind. It is the tale of a highly evolved being named “Beelzebub” as he travels on a space ship recounting his adventures of the time he was banished to our solar system. It covers the entire history of our planet and the strange behaviours and customs of our peculiar species. It was intended to be a very difficult book to read and requires great effort and attention.
